Joe is an imaginative eleven-year-old boy. He can’t fit in at school. He’s the victim of bullies. His dad died overseas in the Iraq war. He also suffers from Type 1 diabetes. One fateful day, his condition causes him to believe he has entered a vivid fantasy world in which he is the lost savior—a fantastic land based on the layout and contents of his home. His desperate attempts to make it out of his bedroom transform into an incredible, epic adventure through a bizarre landscape of submarine pirate dwarves, evil Hell Hounds, Lightning Lords and besieged castles. But is his quest really just an insulin deprived delirium—from which he can die if he doesn’t take his meds—or something much bigger?

After health problems wiped out their first few weeks of school, Perley and Amandine are both starting their Junior year behind their classmates, and both have major changes in their lives that they’re struggling to get used to. Perley was diagnosed with diabetes over the summer, and worries that all these new medical expenses will be a hardship on his family. And Amandine, part of a venerated family of vampires, has been turned much younger than she expected to be after a car accident nearly killed her. The two of them form a fast friendship – both feel a little out of step with their old lives, and as a bonus, it turns out that Amandine’s new vampire abilities can help Perley save money on blood glucose tests. But as the year goes on, they’re forced to admit that maybe their coping strategies – and their blood-sipping-turned-romance – aren’t working out so well after all. Will they be able to get their lives back to normal? Or will both have to figure out new ways for their “normal” to look?

A great band does more than make music – it makes a difference! This Zebrafish adventure shows that doing good can make a splash and be a rockin’ good time. Zebrafish has disbanded, at least for the summer, but the ex-band members can still improve the world in their own way. Vita is figuring out how to channel her lazy summer into something positive (with her dog Chimp’s help, of course). Walt and Jay convert an old ice cream truck into an awesomely painted (and fully wired) book mobile. And Plinko and Tanya inspire their campers at Stickleback Arts Camp to seize the day. Tanya takes a special interest in a camper with diabetes who’d rather hang out in the infirmary than participate in camp, while Plinko is preoccupied with his night vision goggles (leading campers to the bathroom night or day!). Ideally Zebrafish will reunite for the end of summer Strings of Fury concert at the Dunes, but there’s a hitch – Vita refuses to play plastic. This follow-up collaboration between FableVision and Children’s Hospital Boston is as rockin’ as the first.

Twins Alec and Walker Holland have a reputation around town. One is quiet and the other is the life of any party, but they are inseparable. For their last summer before college, the two leave the city to live with their rural cousins, where they find that the swamp holds far darker depths than they could have imagined. While Walker carves their names into the new social scene, Alec recedes into a summer school laboratory, because he brought something from home on their trip—it’s an experiment that will soon consume him. This season, both brothers must confront truths, ancient and familial, and as their lives diverge, tensions increase and dormant memories claw to the surface.
